THE HISTORY OF theFUCkFILE
The first incarnation of the FUCkfile
that I am aware of was back in 1982. It began as a way to learn text
file manipulation. At that time, I had access to a mainframe computer
(this is quite some time before the advent of the PC as most of you
know it) and the tools at my disposal were limited by todays standards.
Basic file manipulation and list control were difficult given the
bulkiness of programming languages at the time. I was early in my
career and my skills were also limited. As I have always been one
to learn best through practical trial and error, I embarked upon a
project to teach myself the tools of the trade by beginning a list.
This original list was nothing more than random thoughts formed into
simple sentences captured as strings which were then added to the
bottom of a text file. If I recall, the file had grown to 300 or so
entries by the time I had satisfied my need to learn string and file
manipulation techniques.
Though I had completed my project and moved on to much more complicated
applications, I kept the simple file program intact. At the time,
I thought I'd keep the code around in case I found a use for it in
the future.
The file found it's true calling almost immediately. It began slowly.
I would open it occasionally and post a note or a though. These short
postings rapidly became vented frustrations. I had found the list
a great place to place my true feelings about simple crap that bugged
me throughout the day. I'd post it to the file then forget about it.
Posting to the file had became a mechanism to vent my frustrations
over things that I had no outlet for otherwise.
The true birthday of the FUCkfile was
some months after it's original creation. The file itself had grown
to a sum total of 2200 entries when it was discovered by another system
operator. The file, and it's purpose, became apparent to me the next
time I opened the program to post an entry. There were dozens of new
posts. None of which I placed there. As it turned out, the other system
operator had read through the file and decided to make a few additions
of his own. He then let others know of the file's existence. Each
new person added their posts as well. From that moment on, the file
was considered a system tool and was widely used by system operators
and programmers throughout the company.
The term 'FUCkfile' actually originated because I had altered the
entry script to automatically add the word 'FUCK' at the beginning
of every post. I made this alteration some time before the program
was discovered so the nickname was immediate and permanent. Thus,
the FUCkfile entered the world.
I have reintroduced the FUCkfile program
to every system and intranet I have had access to along the way. By
now there are thousands of them. From what I hear, the original FUCkfile
is still running within the systems of the orignal company I had worked
for way back in the digital dark ages, though it has been since upgraded
to run as a SQL database. This site is the first truly public incarnation
of the FUCkfile though doubtful to be
the last. It is uncensored (though I will remove spam, phone numbers,
email addresses, etc.) and free of moral conscience. Post as you see
fit and be free.
FUCk the whole entire world. |
